Healing Horses & Troubled Teens since 1995
Not every teenager has the benefit of growing up in a loving, happy home. Some are victims of abuse, neglect, a system that shuffles them from foster home to foster home. Brook Haven Ranch was established in 1995 as a refuge for abused and neglected horses -- and teenagers who needed a second chance in life and the opportunity to become something more than society expects of them.

Emily grew up on a small ranch outside of Augusta. Emily has one older brother and one younger cousin so close he might as well be her brother. Her father's brother - her cousin's father - died when she was four and he was three, and he and his mother moved in, so for most of Emily's life, family meant the six of them: her parents, her aunt, and the three children. Life on the farm was never easy. Emily and her siblings started doing chores as soon as they were old enough. And living on the ranch could be isolating; Augusta was far enough that the trip to and from school already ate up too much time each day, so there was no hope of socializing with friends outside of school.

Instead, Emily's escape was books. She'd get them in school and sneak time to read them - under the covers with a flashlight late at night, or hidden while doing chores. As a child, she saw them as her connection to a world she rarely got to experience herself.

As a teenager, it was easier to see the signs that the ranch was struggling. There wasn't enough money to make the repairs that needed to be made each year. Sales were down, not a lot, but enough, smaller each year than the year before. Her parents never said anything to her directly, but she understood that there was no hope of staying around. Her older brother might inherit the ranch and be able to live on it, but even that only if she was lucky. Suddenly life beyond the ranch was terrifyingly real, and approaching all too soon.

There was an accepted solution: marrying a nice boy with a steady job. But Emily was beginning to realize that might be more complicated for her. After a close friendship with another girl fell apart, Emily began to suspect that her feelings were more than just disappointment at the lose of a friend. Knowing that being a lesbian would make her situation even more difficult in the small town, she needed another solution.

So Emily turned to her books. She'd been a decent student, hard working but uninspired, before, but once she was pouring her energy into it, she quickly excelled. She earned an admission into the honors program at the University of Montana, graduating four years later with a degree in English Literature. She went on from there to get her masters in education at the University of Arizona before finally having to deal with the job market

The next two years were difficult. She scraped together some money as a substitute teacher and a freelance editor, but the job market for English teachers was tight. Meanwhile, the family farm continued to struggle, with her father having to restructure some loans, jeopardizing even her brother's hope of inheriting. Emily had started seriously considering other options when she was offered the position at Brook Haven.

Despite her limited options, Emily had concerns about the position. Her leanings as a teacher were towards the traditional, preferring to push students to read the classics rather than more recent works, and she worried about how that would work in such a non-traditional school, with rather non-traditional students. Still, the perks were significant - most important that she could bring her beloved horse to the ranch and be able to continue riding him, an option which wouldn't have been available at many other jobs - and besides, she needed a job.

Judging Books by Their Cover

Emily is a firm believer that the "classics" - Shakespeare, Dickens, Austin, and the like - are substantially better than almost anything being published today. But over time, talking to her students, she might come to realize that less celebrated books are worth reading too, and learn how to use them at least to help her students find a bridge to the books she really wants them to read.

Family Trouble

Though she rarely talks about it, her family is in trouble. Their farm is failing, year by year, and her brothers had both expected to be able to make a living off it. Emily doesn't make enough to help them, but the situation brings her a lot of stress and worry.

The Love that Dare not Speak its Name

Emily is a lesbian. She's been out of the closet, in Phoenix, but back in Montana, she's gone back in for the moment. Her family still doesn't know, and she's not ready to tell them yet, but she's also not going to keep it hidden forever.

About Emily

Emily is a new English teacher at Brook Haven. She grew up in Montana, though not nearby, and is thrilled to be closer to home and somewhere she can be taking care of her beloved horse regularly again. Emily protects herself by being distant and a little superior, so she can come across as a bit cold. She's not intentionally mean, just reserved in a way that sometimes comes across as hostile. She makes a better impression on people who ignore her affect and realize that she's actually a quietly dependable person trying to be nice.

When she's not working at Brook Haven or riding her horse, she's still exploring Trader's Bend, trying to get used to living in a place that both is and isn't like the town she grew up near.

Platonic

If people are willing to overlook her slight air of superiority, Emily can be a good friend. Most of her friendships start slowly, with people who are willing to put up with her at first, and slowly grow to value her as they realize she's the person who always brings something nice to the potluck, and then sticks around after to help clean up. She's likely to have a decent number of casual friends, people she isn't deeply close to, but who she enjoys spending some of her little free time with.

Her few deeper friendships often form by accident, because she and someone else are there at the right moment, when one of them has a crisis and the other is around to step up. Even then, the friendship is likely to develop in fits and starts; Emily's much better at being helpful than she is at being emotionally supportive, and she's much better at asking for concrete help than she is at opening up emotionally.

Romantic

Emily puts up a big show of being aloof and self-sufficient, but she's actually pretty lonely. Right now she'd be happy to have a fun fling with someone, especially someone who's willing to keep it secret so she doesn't have to go through the trouble of coming out.

In the longer run, though, Emily would really like a relationship with a woman who pursues her a little, and who can convince Emily that it's okay to depend on someone else a little. Emily would be pretty devoted to someone who could do that.

Antagonistic

Some people probably think Emily thinks she's too good for them. Emily's not likely to start a fight with them, but she's happy to keep it up; once she really dislikes someone, she tends to be nastily passive-aggressive, looking for ways to undermine them both in person and behind their back.

There are also some students who will find Emily's class to be intolerable. She's inflexible, and doesn't make much of an effort to "reach" her students: she expects her students to be highly motivated by the material, and isn't tolerant of students who don't try hard or who find the class boring. She's also quite snobby about literature, and looks down on what she thinks of as "mere genre fiction", which could poison her relationship with some students who might have expected to like her class.

Familiar

Emily cares deeply about her family, but she isn't close to them. She sees them a couple times a year, and otherwise tries to keep her distance, both socially and emotionally.

Other

Emily is likely to have some some students who like her, or who at least have a more nuanced relationship with her. She's demanding about how hard students work, but she can take pity on a student who's genuinely struggling; she's much more likely to be sympathetic to a hard-working student struggling with the language or with having started behind than with an advanced student who just isn't putting in the effort.

It might also be interesting to have a real intellectual rivalry with a student who can actually go toe-to-toe with her about books: someone who can prove that they can keep up with what Emily considers good literature, but still defend a broader taste.

First Impressions

Emily presents herself quite formally, much more so than most people expect from a woman of her generation. She dresses neatly and conservatively, and her manners are slightly outdated, a throwback to a previous age. This can make her seem polite and professional, or aloof and rude, depending on the viewer.

Stranger Impressions

Second-hand, Emily doesn't leave much of an impression. She's present, doing whatever she does, without demanding a big place in the world. There are people who hate her, but always for reasons too personal for a stranger to care about.

Friendly Impressions

Emily hasn't had many close friendships, especially not stable ones. She often has a number of casual friends, people she can have dinner with or chat with about the day. With them she's witty, supportive, but still reserved. With her rare close friends, she has a history of overdoing it, being constantly in contact, very supportive, but also sharing and expecting too much; so far that's always lead to the the friendship falling apart when, inevitably, the other person can't provide as much as Emily expects.

Familiar Impressions

Emily loves her family, but preferably in small doses. Around them she feels less like the educated, capable woman she's grown up as, and more of the bookish, isolated farm girl she once was. Around them she's less confident and less clever, and very aware of that.

Rival Impressions

When Emily is competing with someone for something, she buckles down and works non-stop. She doesn't play politics, but she's not above bad-mouthing a rival if she has the chance. Her judgemental side can come out, so her rivalries are rarely friendly.

Enemy Impressions

The most likely people to consider Emily an enemy are some of her students. She's inflexible and often harsh, and some students will blame her for their struggles, possibly correctly. Emily wouldn't consider anyone her enemy, but with students who don't meet her standards, her persistent, pointed criticism is certainly not friendly.

Authority Impressions

Emily tends to make a good impression on her bosses, as she did on her teachers. She's very serious, polite, and professional.

Coworker/Partner Impressions

Emily's coworkers tend to find her a bit cold. She would prefer the formality of a previous era of workplaces, and isn't especially interested in socializing with many people her age. On the other hand, while she doesn't go out of her way to be nice her colleagues, she's happy to be helpful - she's someone who can be counted on to lend a hand, or to put in extra work to make sure things run smoothly.

Lover Impressions

Because she's so unsure of her sexuality, it can take a long time to get through to Emily's softer side. But she does have one: with a lover she can be tender and caring, and also show the part of her that's looking for someone who can be tender and caring back.

Self-Impressions

Deep down, Emily feels like a fake. She's studied, and worked, and read, but she never really feels like she belongs. So she doubles down on pretending to be the kind of person she thinks she should be.

Post-Mortem Impressions

People like, or at least respect, Emily more than she realizes, and the people who haven't gotten along with her don't have grudges that would outlast her life. People would remember her for her high standards, the ones she held others to but also herself.

Mun Impressions

Eventually I'll make a character who isn't really into books, I promise.

Emily is a new character for me. I wanted someone who was responsible and mature enough to be able to help out at Brook Haven, but someone who I'd still be excited about playing. A teacher who was mean enough to be an outright villain didn't seem like a good fit for Brook Haven, so Emily is supposed to be someone who can be the antagonist in some character's stories - the teacher who's too strict, the one who couldn't have been supportive but wasn't, or something similar - while being competent enough to be an appropriate hire.

Lovers

Cassie Fuller • Ex-girlfriend

Emily's most serious former relationship, she and Cassie dated for about eighteen months while Emily was in Phoenix, ultimately breaking up over Emily's unwillingness to move in or tell her parents about the relationship.

Family

Connor Schuster • Brother

Emily's older brother. Serious, hard-working, and a little distant. Emily has always looked up to him, but they've never exactly been close.

Todd Schuster • Cousin

Emily and Todd were almost twins - Todd is six months younger than Emily - and though very different in personality, they've always been very close. Todd is the one who never quite had things together, and Emily's always tried to look out for him, which has become harder since she left town. She hopes to reconnect a bit now that she's at least closer.

Habits

Perfectly Put Together

Emily isn't obsessed with being good looking, but she is very concerned with looking very carefully put together. She never looks disheveled, frumpy, or just casual if she can help it; she's never in public without having her hair brushed just the way she likes it, fully dressed in nice clothes. Even after she's been out riding she'll find a chance to slip off and pull herself back together.

Morning Person

Emily is a morning person. She likes to get up early and take a little bit of personal time - when she's being active, a run, but sometimes just a bit of reading over coffee. On the other hand, she also crashes early; she's reluctant to stay out late even for a special occasion because she gets too tired to enjoy things by the time it's nine or ten o'clock.

Nail Biting

For all her efforts to look organized and put together, Emily has never been able to entirely break the habit of biting her nails, especially while she's thinking. She tries very hard to avoid getting caught at it by her students, but she's given up trying to hide it from the rest of the staff.

Quirks

Sitting on Surfaces

Emily has a tendency to sit on whatever's convenient, often desks, tables, or arms of chairs, rather than on actual chairs.

Hat Collection

Emily has a rather large collection of hats, some of them somewhat ornate, and wears them whenever she has the chance - which isn't nearly often enough since they aren't appropriate at work and few are suited for riding.

Grammar Maven

Emily has a large list of pet peeves about grammar, and she'll casually correct people who violate them, even when it's not entirely appropriate.

Hobbies

Theater

Emily's never been a serious actor, but she acted in a couple community productions when she was growing up and greatly enjoyed it. In Phoenix there weren't any opportunities for complete amateurs like her, but she's hoping there might be some now that she's back in a small town. At a minimum, she'd love to see theater when she has a chance.

The Culture of Books

Emily avidly follows news of the world of books - awards and the gossip around them, who the exciting new authors are, and what debates are going on within the community of people who follow such things.

Riding

Emily does love taking care of and riding her favorite horse. It's been a long time since she took it especially seriously; it's a form of relaxation and exercise, something comfortable and fun, but she doesn't usually push herself (or her horse) hard.

Skills

Baking

Emily grew up helping in the kitchen, and baking was always her strong suit. Her speciality is the rich, very sweet desserts she grew up with, though her tastes and repertoire have broadened since then.

Riding

Interests

Alternative Rock

Emily's preferred music is alternative rock - U2, REM, and similar bands.

Great British Baking Show

Emily won't admit to this, but she absolutely loves the Great British Baking Show, and watches every episode.

Football

Emily is a big fan of the Broncos.

Desired Plots

Not a Mentor

I'd love to see Emily utterly fail to be a mentor to a student. Despite her stern exterior, surely someone will eventually think she might be a good mentor, if only because of their shared love of books. And I'd like to see a case where that doesn't work out: where Emily lets the kid down, by being too unyielding, too judgemental, and too cold.

Growing Taste

I'd also like to see someone really push back against Emily's restrictive taste. Emily thinks the only books that count are the classics, and is utterly disdainful of anything modern. I'd love to see a student push back and actually convince her of the value of some more modern books.

Coming Out

I'd also like to see Emily forced to deal with the struggles of a gay or gender-queer student. She's very much not out to her students, and not the sort to share her own struggles with them, but watching a student she cared about struggle would force her to make some decisions about her own life.

Ellie & Emily
lot of bullying over the years. Keith in particular was hard on her, and she grew up fighting for everything that she wanted or needed in her life. So normally she could handle the sniping. Except that she's pregnant, she's vulnerable, and she's had miscarriages in the past. With all of that compounding, she is likely to snap back with an abrupt "what the hell is your problem, anyway?" She probably won't assume that it's her sexuality because she's comfortable with that. She's a lot more likely to assume that Emily dislikes her choice in lifestyle, being with two people at once. I'm totally down for this thread though, if you want to do it with the Easter event?

Rachel came to Brook Haven on a referral from her brother. She served eighteen months in juvenile detention and upon her release, her parents relinquished their parental rights to her entirely. Her life looks like one bad decision that influenced the everything, but the truth is that she's made a lot of mistakes, from having a baby at the age of twelve to holding up a liquor store when she was barely fifteen. At the end of the day, what she wanted the most was her parents' attention, and they were never capable of giving her that.

The ranch only knows part of the truth about Rachel; That she was arrested for holding up a liquor store, that she was difficult in juvy, that she was prone to fights with other inmates, that she was difficult to control (or just plain "difficult"). Her parents and the authorities never revealed the truth of her pregnancy or the child she was forced to give up for adoption, the circumstances of her family or the fact that her parents didn't treat her very well.

She's come to Brook Haven Ranch with no hope or expectations of something good coming of her experience with juvenile detention. Her natural reaction is to buck the system and to fight back, but Rachel is exhausted by her experiences and all she wants is a better life for herself.

A tried and true "horse girl," this is exactly the right place for Rachel, who has missed being around horses while she was in juvy. Their presence has surprised her, and they've given her an outlet for a lot of what's going on inside of her (because despite it all, she's less angry and more hurt than most people seem to realize).

Rachel & Ms. Schuster
First of all, please accept my apology; I thought that I'd replied to this months ago. Now that I've re-read it, I get the sense that I didn't reply is because I needed time to process. Then everything happened and... Well, I flaked. Now this has my proper attention, and there's a lot more to what you gave me than you might even realize. Rachel can be vulnerable. It's difficult to see a lot of the time at first. She's not being the snot that she can sometimes be at the beginning of her journey, so maybe her true colors are showing a bit more. Anyway, if Emily looks down on Rachel's reading habits, it's going to hurt her. That's okay! That's okay! Rachel is precious to me and I hate to see her hurt, but I can handle this, because I think that it's a growing experience for Emily. A lot of people Rachel's age don't read for pleasure at all, and one of those reasons is elitism like what Emily is showing right now. This is a good opportunity for Rachel to snap with a "at least I'm reading! Why don't you quiz the rest of your students on what they recently read!" Rachel, of course, is not in Emily's class/year, but that doesn't mean that this sort of attitude won't affect her. It's a possible point for Emily to start to think about her own attitude toward what her students read, and it would allow me to reassess Rachel's position on being so... cowed at the moment. Would you be interested in this thread? Better for you to start this one, but I could give it a shot. Just might not be the best for cuing you.

Grace was sent to Brook Haven Ranch by her parents, who felt that she was defiant, disobedient, and obstinate at home. More than they wanted to help her, they wanted her out of their hair. She frustrated them to no end with her vegetarian lifestyle, her refusal to participate in the slaughter of animals on their homestead, and failed to produce even the "simplest" of baked goods to sell at the market. In many ways, Grace was a liability to her parents, and so they found the most convenient way to get her out of their hair: They enrolled her at Brook Haven Ranch.

It broke Grace's heart. A good girl who has always done her best to please her parents, she's struggled throughout her entire lifetime to do what they wanted of her. On the ranch she has been obedient, considerate, polite, and compassionate with her peers. She's learned to ride quickly, is excellent with horses, and she has gone the distance to help other students to learn how to make the most of their experience on the ranch as well. Helpful and kind, she's known as someone who is a friend to everyone.

Grace is also a strange person. She belongs to a family of witches who have practiced witchcraft for many generations, and her beliefs, therefore, are different from most other students on the ranch. This makes her an easy target for bullying by some of the pushier students on the ranch, but she's always tolerated bullying with a brave face.

This is the first time that Grace has been in school, having been previously home schooled, and so she's still adjusting to the academics and the schedule for education, since she's more accustomed to working every day of the year without much of a break.

Now her home relationships are in turmoil, and it's tough for Grace since her parents and sisters live in Trader's Bend. She's not sure whether they're ever going to come to see her on the visitation days, and she's trying hard not to care.

Grace & Ms. Schuster
I'm trying to give Emily some more plots because she never got them, but I'm also picking and choosing who I post to her. It's not my favorite thing to toss empty, meaningless posts at shippers, so I'm trying to choose characters whose interactions might be meaningful. Grace is dealing with a lot of issues with self-confidence. She's never had a lot of support from her family and she was made to feel stupid by her parents. Reading and literature isn't her "thing" but she would be interested in learning more about a variety of topics, and I could see her approaching Emily for help in choosing "proper" literature in the hopes of impressing her parents when they came to visit. None of her sisters read a lot of fiction in the first place, and I could definitely see Grace getting into Shakespeare especially. I'm not sure how this would translate to a thread, but it's an idea for the future, perhaps.

Will's another student who won't be in Emily's class, but he's also a hardcore reader when he wants to be, and he loves to tell stories, so he might be attracted to her because she is a literate type of person, and he spent a lot of time reading while he was in the hospital. I haven't examined his interest in books at the moment, but I could see this going two ways: Either her encouraging him to read more classic literature, or her (literally) pushing him around because of the wheelchair. How do you see her reacting to him?

Kate grew up as the only daughter in a semi-traditional Korean-American family. Her mother pushed her to study the piano until Kate thought her fingers (or her ears) were going to bleed, while her father encouraged her to follow her dreams. AS a result, she left the piano behind and became a red and white belt in Judo (6th dan) and a black belt in TaeKwondo (5th dan).

She went to college to be a social worker after she helped her best friend in childhood escape from his abusive parents. He survived because of her, and the feeling that it was possible for her to make that big a difference in the lives of people she cared about drove her to do something bigger with her life, to continue to put that effort into "saving children."

It was through her job that she met her current boyfriend, Josh Tanner. He is a police officer who helped her on a couple of cases, a man who had already adopted as a single father and who would later do so again. He inspired her, and the two of them have been together for the past ten years. Kate doesn't always agree with what he does (he's a struggling drug addict who may also have an alcohol problem), but she loves him nonetheless, and therefore she is strongly committed to Josh.

Kate is what she likes to refer to as a "badass social worker." She rides a Harley Davidson (two, actually -- her Softail and her Lowrider) without sitting behind a man to do so; She is a master of Judo; She has taken control of her own destiny without expectations from other people. She does very well for herself in the general sense of the word, and she believes that everybody has the opportunity to make the most out of their lives, and therefore that they should push to be the best that they can be.

Kate & Emily
Kate has the same tendency to think of herself as superior that Emily does, and like Emily (if I'm reading her right), she doesn't realize that she sort of has her nose in the air with everybody that she meets. She can totally see the value and importance of younger people, adults she generally looks down on. I'm not sure whether this means that they are apt to be friends or that they are apt to tear one another's throats out. The only way to really know is to put them into something together and see how they wind up being together. Kate doesn't tend to think that other people are capable of serving the community the way that she does, and it could be good for them to go from enemies to friendly rivals, to good friends. You were saying that her close friendships develop by accident; Could this be one of those situations?

Nadia & Emily
In all honesty, I think that Nadia is likely to be amused by this situation. For obvious reasons, pacing isn't going to exactly be her "thing." She doesn't read without any intonation (when she wears her hearing aids, anyway) but she doesn't tend to use a lot of meter in the way that she reads aloud, even when she's reading poetry. So this is going to be an interesting opportunity, to say the least. I think that Nadia would want to use the opportunity to talk to Emily a bit about the fact that language doesn't have to be vocal, or even verbal (her language is based in concepts, not words) and perhaps to show Emily the way that the verses can be signed rather than said. The question is, how would Emily feel about this experience, and is it something that she'd support?

Daesung & Emily
I know that you said that you were having some trouble figuring out how to plot with Daesung, so I thought that I'd toss him at you and see what we can come up with instead. For what it's worth, I get it. The app focuses so much on stereotypes (which is intentional) that I think that it's somewhat difficult to wade through all of that to get to what's plottable here and what isn't. It gives me a lot of control, but it also means that I'm going to have to be willing to reach out to other people. So here's what I have for Emily. If there is one word that describes Daesung down to a T, it is curious. His English is just about perfect. He started learning when he was a little boy and his adoptive parents only spoke English at home so he learned it quickly that way. He won't have trouble with the reading -- just with the literature, which is unfamiliar to him. Because this is unknown territory, rather than being afraid of it, he will be thrilled with the sorts of books that she teaches in her class. Technically, of course he's not in her class, so this is a problem. However, I perceive that he will be attracted to her demeanor and want to seek her out for more books to read and discussions about what makes her passionate, since he enjoys passion and curiosity above all things. I'd imagine that this would be fairly validating for Emily, as she doesn't get that a lot. She's teaching Shakespeare right now, so I could definitely see him approaching her about something in one of the books that he doesn't understand (just having, say, picked up one of the plays at the school's library, for example) and bringing it to her to question her about the language of the books, or the iambic pentameter. I'd laugh because I could totally see him encouraging her to act out the play and then feigning rapt attention to whatever she was doing. xD It could make for a silly thread!

Sam & Emily
I hate to think of Sam as being a manipulative person but he’s incredibly distraught over the lack of time he gets to study. He’s still going to work his arse off but being limited to a guaranteed two hours and fifteen minutes of work a day inevitably means he won’t be able to meet his school plan of hitting a C in English, let alone the high B/low A goal he’s set for himself. So if she shows an interest in helping him outside of class, and doesn’t discourage him from overworking himself like other staff members probably will, then I see him trying to guilt her into writing off an occasional group activity to help him out. Do you think he’d be successful in something like that?

Emily & FelixThose little microagressions in the classroom would really wind him up. To the point that he might start acting out in class, or purposefully being difficult as a means of "getting back at" her. Of course he would still enjoy the more theatrical parts of class, but through out the rest of her class he would most likely be distant and mildly aggressive once he had decided that she didn't like queer people. A thread after Emily came out would be SO interesting! Because Felix is so plugged into the queer community in NYC he does think of himself as kind of an expert on it (he's not really he just thinks real highly of himself... a lot of the time). And he would have this weird mix of supportive about exploring sexuality and expressing herself, feeling superior, and also still being angry. Hit me back!

Aurelia River was born on the 22nd of March to David and Sarah in Los Angeles. The youngest of two her brother being seven years older than her. From the beginning Jonah loved his sister and took care of her for a while everything in her life was fine. Her parents were happy and their family was complete. When Aurelia was two her dad’s involvement in Drugs in particular shipping them across the state was found out. In response for testifying against the men her father had been working for the charges were dropped and the family relocated to New York for there own safety. The whole situation put a strain on her parents relationship and in turn started to put a strain on the children’s relationship with there mother as she was the one who was wanting to leave. At four Aurelia received and diagnosis for Sensory processing disorder this helped to explain the issues with Textures of certain foods, hypersensitive to certain fabrics, oversensitivity to sounds.Especially hair dryers, washing machines or sirens and Oversensitive to Odours and Oversensitivity to touch. Aurelia’s SPD was more severe until she started receiving Occupational and physical therapy for it. Now she is able to easily deal with the things that she still finds a problem. Aurelia was a happy child for the most part who was extremely close with her father. The pair of them were very much pea’s in a pod he was the one who taught her to bake and to play poker and the one who encouraged her to dance even though she sometimes found the music hard. Aurelia was eight when her mother was actually able to leave something completely destroyed the young girls relationship with her mother. After her mother left she had no contact with her children and soon signed away her custody wanting nothing more to do with them. Aurelia still doesn't know why her mother didn't want them anymore, She wishes that she had the answer to that question. After her mother left her relationship with her dad and her brother became even more important to the young girl. It was her dad and her brother that made Aurelia the person she is today. They taught her to be independent and to have a positive self image. She is extremely grateful for them and the fact that because of them she has a positive self image and is kind and generous although sometimes she wishes that she hadn't inherited the family temper. Aurelia was twelve when her dad was arrested for Drug’s and attempted murder. With her dad in jail Aurelia was put into the care of her big brother something that was fine for her because she was still with her family. Jonah had always been Relia’s biggest supporter and she was extremely grateful for her brothers care. Sadly for Aurelia this wasn't going to last as when she was fourteen her brother was killed in a car accident on his way to pick up Relia from school. Aurelia was placed into foster care and it was from here that things started to fall apart. She hated foster care and really struggled to handle it, it cause a lot of emotional stress for Aurelia and made it so that she was lot less tolerant due to her temper becoming more and more visible. It was here that Aurelia started shop lifting and running away and in the end she got arrested for GBH after losing her temper and beating up on of the other teens in her foster home. You see they decided that talking rubbish about her family was a good idea and well it didn't go down well with Aurelia. Aurelia ended up in court something that she had promised her dad would never happen it was here that Aurelia was in her eyes lucky. Instead of sending her juvie which the judge could have done he sent her to Brookhaven deciding that it would be a much more healthy enviroment for the young women. Aurelia is very aware that what she did was wrong and that she shouldn't have let it get to her but controlling her temper isn't really something she can do at this point in time.

Aurelia & Emily.
I agree that it seems likely for Aurelia and Emily to butt heads as Emily is certainly in a position that will bother Aurelia. Relia is very easily triggered when it comes to her temper around women and to start with even being in Emily’s class is going to hard for the young girl because she automatically goes to the you don’t deserve my respect place because of who you are. its a warped view but one that she certainly continues to hold onto, not to mention the fact she struggles with english and she doesn’t like like the subject so that makes her a little more volatile than usual.

I actually really like the idea of Emily over reacting about something that Relia did or said because i think its something that would be really interesting to play out and see how there relationship develops and changes as Aurelia gets better at being around Females and especially females in positions of power.

Emily & Evan
Teachers are actually the first authority figures that Evan has learned to control the oppositional defiance against. That being said if she kept being purposefully antagonistic he would not be able to hold back the unwitty snappy comebacks and would stop doing his work out of spite. I can think of a million and one reasons how he could agitate her without resorting to the learning disabilities, which would in turn make her inimical towards him, which you know. Leads to a more verbally aggressive argument, leading to either of them tailing the hell out of there in frustration. Let’s go off the assumption that he passed but did extremely poorly in 10th grade English and now needs to do some form of remedial work to at least get a C during the summer. Idea goes as follows: Evan has been assigned some reading from a ‘boring ass book’ (his words not mine) that Emily considers a classic and opts instead to read a recent sci-fi. That in combo with him getting up in class to stand up behind his desk, seemingly submitting poor work with abysmal spelling, and not paying attention in a two person class (him and teacher) she’s at her wit’s end? If that works for you, can you start? Me one, you one? http://files.b1.jcink.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif

Rhiann & Emilyi can definitely toss rhiann at you to be emily's secret hook up. they don't have much in common aside from their need for personal time, but i think they could run into each other in the trails (since that's where they both seem to escape to). i can imagine a really awkward situation the next morning where rhiann asks if emily wants to go for coffee with her, and emily freaks out because that's ~too gay~ and out in the open. that's actually something that would be really fun to thread out, if you're up to it?Hit me back!
